FOXBOROUGH -- By all accounts, Kyle Dugger had a very solid rookie season, playing in 14 games and recording 64 tackles.

But, not to the rookie himself.

Speaking following Patriots training camp Thursday, Dugger was asked to grade his 2020 season.

"Below average," he said. "That's really all I can say. It was fun to get the experience and be out there, but it wasn't a great year."

Why below average?

"Just being comfortable," Dugger said. "Really just how comfortable I was out there, and everything I'm doing for the team now, having that trust, that feeling of being able to play fast. So that's really the only thing."

Bill Belichick always points to players making the biggest jump from Year 1 to Year 2 and it seems Dugger believes that will be the case for himself.

"Yes. Night and day," he said. "Just looking at the first couple days of (2020 training) camp, it's a big difference. I'm like a completely different player, and that's great to see, and I can feel that, as well. So I'd definitely say so."

Dugger should have a similar role to Adrian Phillips where the two move around the defense depending on the opponent each week.
