Patriots continue to build positive momentum in training camp

As if there wasn’t enough going on at Gillette Stadium on Friday night with the video board activation and the in-stadium practice, the Patriots added something else to our plate.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, New England signed linebacker Matthew Judon to a contract adjustment that bumps his original $2 million guaranteed in 2023 up to $14 million fully guaranteed in 2023. It will also allow him to make up to $18 million this year.

The four-time Pro Bowler signed a four-year, $56 million contract with the Patriots during their 2021 offseason spending spree and has tallied 28 sacks, including a career high 15.5 in 2022.

Judon had been staging what some assumed was a “hold in" since the start of Patriots training camp by warming up, not wearing pads, and seldom participating in practice. According to Schefter, this was in fact the case:

“Through the early part of training camp,” Schefter tweeted, “Matthew Judon has warmed up with his teammates before doing conditioning drills on a side field during practice. Now Judon can rejoin his teammates for full practice sessions.”

While Judon didn’t participate in New England’s in-stadium session on Friday night, he should likely be back with them on Sunday when they return to the practice field.
