6 rings One-Off Wednesday: Should QBs throw at the NFL Comine?
The Patriots aren't leaving any stone unturned during the course of their NFL Combine scouting process.
After de facto general manager Eliot Wolf told reporters on Tuesday that the team was set to meet with the top three quarterbacks in Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels, The Boston Herald's Doug Kyed added two more to the mix on Wednesday. The Patriots reportedly also met with Michigan's J.J. McCarthy and Oregon's Bo Nix.
Their meetings with Maye, Daniels, McCarthy and Nix took place on Tuesday. Their meeting with Williams takes place on Wednesday night.
"First of all, being someone that can elevate his teammates," said Wolf when asked about what he looks for in a quarterback. "Someone that your teammates wanna play for. I think that's an extremely underrated thing that people don't really talk about that much. Leadership's important, and obviously-- you know, physical talent. We wouldn't be talking about these guys if they weren't physically talented."
"You know the thing about quarterbacks for me," said Mayo when broached with the same question. "Look everyone wants the big arm, the mobility, and things like that, but I do think it's important just to get a good sense of what type of competitor they are. You know their toughness, things like that."
He later continued: "You want to see how they respond to adversity on the field and, honestly, you want to talk about some of the adversity they had off the field as well."
