Patriots get good news once again with COVID tests, on track to play Sunday

For the second straight day, the Patriots had no positive COVID tests — according to multiple reports.

The last positive test was reportedly defensive tackle Byron Cowart Saturday night/Sunday morning. He was the fourth player to test positive joining Cam Newton, Stephon Gilmore and Bill Murray.

The Gillette Stadium facility was shut down Sunday and players were off Monday and Tuesday, but are scheduled to return for practice on Wednesday.

The no new positive tests indicate those plans remain in place.

“We’re on track to play on Sunday, put it that way,” Bill Belichick said via video conference Tuesday.

Given everything that has happened this season, the coach knows his team will continue to remain flexible.

“Well, we’ve been dealing with changes all year,” Belichick said. “It went all the way back to the spring and the start of the offseason program, virtual meetings, OTAs, minicamp, training camp. So, I think we have all gone through this year with a very flexible attitude and understanding that things are going to change and we’re going to have to make adjustments. I think the players, the coaches, the staff, everybody has handled it pretty well. Whatever we’ve had to do, we’ve done. We’ve tried to make the best of our opportunities and that is what we’ll continue to do.”

New England will host Denver Sunday at 1 p.m. which was rescheduled from Week 5.
