The Patriots have reportedly made a decision at quarterback.

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, New England is preparing to start Bailey Zappe against the Chargers this Sunday.

Howe added that “it should be his job this week if all goes as expected.”

During the portion of Wednesday’s Patriots practice open to the media, Zappe took the majority of reps during drills with wide receivers and tight ends, followed by rookie QB/WR Malik Cunningham. Mac Jones and practice squad quarterback Will Grier stood behind, not participating.

According to the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed and MassLive’s Mark Daniels, Zappe took the majority of first-team reps during the session, with Daniels adding that Jones ran the scout team offense.

"I don't think he's the No. 1 to blame," Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien told reports on Tuesday when asked about New England's third-year signal caller in Jones. "If you want to blame anybody, blame me. I'm the one that designs it and it's not going very well."

Jones was benched for the fourth time this season in favor of Zappe last Sunday against the Giants. Now, it looks like he's lost the starting job.
