Last Friday, the day after the Patriots' preseason opener, Cam Newton posted something to Instagram with the caption being about loyalty.

“ím FÂR FRØM ₽£RF£ČT.... büt ŁØ¥ÂŁT¥, í D£§£RV£ ĮT⚠️," the caption said.

While it didn't give off any indication it was about football, some made the leap and said it was related to football and his quarterback competition with rookie Mac Jones.

Speaking to reporters in Philadelphia following Monday's joint session with the Eagles, Newton was asked about it.

“The girls in my life,” he said with a laugh. “Just teasing. What do you mean?”

Newton went on to say it had nothing to do with football and he was surprised it was even brought up to him.

“Listen, no. I really didn’t [think it would come up]. Having a close talk with people, that’s just the type of vibe I have been on — as a father, as a friend. It’s deeper than football in most cases with my Instagram," he said. "As you know, I don’t really, I use my social platform to really become a human. I don’t really talk about football things. I try and post minimal football things because at the end of the day I’m a human being. That statement wasn’t for football. It was more so like a human.

"Like, I’m a person who is away from my kids a lot, especially during the year. Away from my family a lot. Away from my friends a lot. Away from the people who know me most a lot. I’m not perfect by that and that’s what I was kinda meaning by that. For somebody to take that interpretation as far as I don’t know how, but [it had zero] to do with football. Having a relationship with your kids via FaceTime, that’s kind of like the worst thing, but it’s my heart. My heart is intentional and I want loyalty more so because of my imperfections as a person, as a man.”

Based on that answers, there's nothing to see here. Carry on.
