Pats Stats Check-In: Mac Jones moving on up

Seven weeks of 2023 NFL action are in the books and clear statistical trends have taken hold across the league. As such, WEEI.com will check in each week through the remainder of the season to see how the Patriots (2-5) are doing statistically in a variety of areas, both on a team level and as individuals.

Pats’ stats analysis: Mac Jones’ numbers are still far from elite after what might have been the best game of his still-young career in which he completed 25 of his 30 passes for 272 yards with a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions to beat the Bills. The winning work saw Jones jump from 30th in the NFL in passer rating to 23rd, while his completion percentage rose from 20th to 15th. … Despite its best output of the season, including topping 20 points for the first time, New England still ranks in the bottom third of the NFL in most categories, including 31st in points. … Meanwhile the defense continues to rank in the top half of the league or better in most areas. … Turnovers remain the Patriots’ biggest issue, including being tied for last in the NFL with five takeaways despite both an interception and a fumble recovery against the Bills. … Individually, Kendrick Bourne’s work over the last couple weeks has pushed him up the wide receiver charts. He leads New England with 34 catches, tied for 24th in the NFL at this point.
