Training camp is just a few short weeks away and to get ready for it, we will be unveiling a 21 questions about the Patriots series relating to the upcoming season. Be sure to check back almost every day to see a new question.
Who’ll be a Patriots breakout player in 2021?
There are a few ways to take this question based on the definition of "breakout," but we're going with a player who hasn't done much in the NFL to this point.
Mac Jones.
Jones is obviously the Patriots' quarterback of the future and we expect him to have a big rookie season -- no matter when he sees the field for the first time. While he may not be as good as Justin Herbert was with the Chargers a year ago, we could see something similar with Jones.
The pieces certainly are in place for the Alabama product with some solid options in the passing game and also an offense that can run the ball against almost any defense. This will take some of the pressure off the rookie quarterback.
It also helps to have one of the best offensive coordinators in the game calling plays in Josh McDaniels, as he will be able to use Jones' skills to put him in positions to succeed. Having players like Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith should also help in that regard.
Josh Uche and Kyle Dugger are two players on the other side of the ball who come to mind, but we're really expecting big things from Jones this coming season.
