Training camp is just a few short weeks away and to get ready for it, we will be unveiling a 21 questions about the Patriots series relating to the upcoming season. Be sure to check back almost every day to see a new question.
Who will start more games at QB for Patriots, Cam Newton or Mac Jones?
We see this as being a pretty easy one — Mac Jones. Although, it could happen in a number of different ways, but all those ways have Jones getting the most starts.
The easiest way for that to happen is for Jones to win the starting job out of training camp, which is very possible. The rookie put together a solid spring and if he continues at this same trajectory, it seems he would be ready to start Week 1. He is the Patriots’ quarterback of the future, so if he’s ready he should start.
And then even if he doesn’t start Week 1, it still seems like he would take over for Cam Newton at some point during the year and that would likely come sooner rather than later.
While we don’t buy into waiting until after Tom Brady and the Buccaneers come to town in Week 4, even if that does happen and Jones starts after that, he still would end up starting more games than Newton.
Having Newton start the whole year just doesn’t make much sense from the Patriots’ perspective. When he was selected No. 15 overall, they committed to him for the future and not having him play this year is just delaying that process, which doesn’t make too much sense, especially if he’s showing that he’s ready to play.
