Sony Michel feels good about health heading into Week 1

Just like all NFL players, Sony Michel didn’t have a typical offseason when it comes to preparing for the season.

Although for Michel, he got off to even a later start, as he was on PUP for the first couple of training camp sessions following offseason foot surgery.

Michel was activated Aug. 26.

Ideally, the Georgia product might be eased back into things, especially in the first few games. But, thanks to Damien Harris dealing with a pinky injury that could keep him out of Week 1 and potentially beyond, Michel will be needed right away.

So, how does the third-year running back feel just six days out from the first game?

“I would say I am in the best position possible right now to be able to go into Game 1 and be able to perform as best as I can,” he said via video conference Sunday. “The coaching staff, the training staff has done a great job preparing me for this opportunity. All I can do is go out there and give it all I have.”

While he acknowledged missing time is not ideal, he’s feeling good about where he’s at.

“I wouldn’t say caught up because I can’t really make up for those days that I lost that those guys got, but I would say I am in a good position where I am able to get better,” Michel said. “I am feeling good. I like where I’m at and I am headed in the right direction.”

Michel is in a running backs room with Harris, Rex Burkhead, James White and J.J. Taylor, who is currently on the practice squad. As things look right now, he likely will be the lead back just like he’s been the previous two seasons.
