the rich keefe show: Mike Kadlick breaks down what he's been seeing at Patriots training camp
There’s nothing like some off day news!
According to The Score’s Jordan Schultz, the Patriots are bringing free agent running back Ezekiel Elliott into Foxborough for a visit on Saturday.
Through eight NFL seasons, 'Zeke' has 8,262 yards and 68 touchdowns on the ground along with 305 receptions for 2,336 yards and 12 touchdowns through the air. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2016, his rookie year.
New England's running back room currently consists of Rhamondre Stevenson, Pierre Strong Jr., Kevin Harris, and JJ Taylor.
Ty Montgomery is also adjacent to their RB room as a versatile WR/runner, but left Wednesday's training camp session with a lower-body injury and wasn't spotted on Friday.
The Patriots are heavily involved in the market for a running back to backup/spell Stevenson, as according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the team was also looking to set up a visit with Dalvin Cook. They had Leonard Fournette and Darrell Henderson in for visits last week as well.
The NFL's running back market has been in flux lately as its value is waning, something Stevenson didn't want to speak about on Friday:
“I’m just focused on the game of football,” said the playmaker. When asked about New England potentially adding another back to the room, Stevenson said he’s confident in the backs on the team but he’d welcome it if they added a guy like Dalvin Cook. Elliott would presumably be in that category as well.
