After a tough showing from the department on Thursday night, the Patriots have added to their running back room.

As first reported by PFN’s James Larsen and confirmed by Aaron Wilson, New England is signing running back C.J. Marable. The team worked him out last week and reportedly made the signing official on Friday night.

Marable went undrafted in 2021 before signing with the Chicago Bears. After being released following training camp, Marable went on to play two seasons with the USFL Birmingham Lions, winning two championships with the club. He was released from his contract on August 11 in order to sign with the Patriots.

In three seasons at Coastal Carolina, Marable rushed for 2,859 yards and 29 touchdowns on 491 carries. A viable receiving back, he also caught 12 touchdowns over three season.

He’ll join a running back room that includes Rhamondre Stevenson, Ty Montgomery, Pierre Strong Jr., Kevin Harris, and JJ Taylor.
