Patriots to play in Germany in 2023

The Patriots are going overseas in 2023. The NFL announced Thursday morning that the Patriots will be the designated home team for one of the league's two games in Germany.

The date, location and opponent for the game will be announced at a later date. The Chiefs will also host a game in Germany, while the Bills, Titans and Jaguars will be the home teams for the NFL's three games in London.

This will be the Patriots' fourth international game all time. They've won their previous three, beating the Buccaneers in London in 2009, the Rams in London in 2012, and the Raiders in Mexico City in 2017.

The NFL made its Germany debut this past season, when Tom Brady's Buccaneers beat the Seahawks 21-16 in November. That game was played at Munich's Allianz Arena.

The NFL previously announced that Munich and Frankfurt would host games in Germany over the next four years, so it seems likely the Patriots will play in one of those two cities with the Chiefs' game in the other.

"We are thrilled to be selected to play in Germany this year," Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in a statement. "We are undefeated in our three previous international games, thanks in part to the outstanding support from our fans. We know that some of our most passionate fans reside in Germany, and we look forward to finally playing a game there. We know the fans will create an amazing atmosphere. We are sure it will be a memorable experience and one of the highlights of the 2023 season."

Since the Chiefs and Bills already have international games scheduled, we know the Patriots' Germany game will not be against one of them. New England's other seven home opponents for the 2023 season are the Jets, Dolphins, Colts, Chargers, Eagles, Commanders and Saints. The Patriots will now play eight home games, eight road games and the one international game.
