With the Patriots adding two tight ends this week in Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith, the team does not need all of the players currently on the roster at that position.
According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, the Patriots are trading Ryan Izzo to the Texans for a 2022 seventh-round pick.
This feels like the Patriots were going to release him and would take anything they could get for him. Of course, Nick Caserio is familiar with Izzo and a change in scenery could be good for the 25-year-old.
In 18 career games, Izzo has 19 catches for 313 yards and a touchdown.
The Patriots still have Henry, Smith, Dalton Keene, Devin Asiasi and Matt LaCosse (2020 opt out) at the position.
