"I'm getting ready for Kansas City."

That's what Patriots head coach Bill Belichick told the media on Wednesday morning when asked about the understanding of his job status heading into 2024.

The question, of course, was posed following a story that made the rounds on Tuesday that a decision was already made that he won't be returning next season.

"When they came out of Germany," Curran said on Monday's episode of NBC Sports Boston's Arbella Early Edition. "Conversations I had that week made it very clear that a decision was made, and they were going to play out the string, and at the end of the year there would be a parting of the ways."

So since it's not yet the end of the year and the string has yet to be fully played out, it's business as usual in Foxborough. Here’s what stood out in the Patriots' first practice of Chiefs week:

Attendance:

Absent:
RB Rhamondre Stevenson

IR:
CB Marcus Jones
DL Daniel Ekuale
CB Christian Gonzalez
LB Matthew Judon
OT Riley Reiff
OT Tyrone Wheatley Jr.
WR Kendrick Bourne

Other Notes:

- The Patriots were down depth in both their quarterback and wide receiver room on Wednesday and will be for the foreseeable future as Malik Cunningham was signed by the Baltimore Ravens off of New England's practice squad on Tuesday.

- Rookie wide receiver Demario Douglas (concussion) returned to practice on Wednesday. Rhamondre Stevenson (ankle) was absent.

- OT Tyrone Wheatley was present at practice, opening his 21-day window to return from IR.
