After an exciting, unpredictable and quintessentially Belichickian draft, the Patriots are back where the real football work gets done — the field.
After strength and conditioning work the last a few weeks, the Pats are onto phase two of the voluntary portion of their offseason workouts. This involves taking the action onto the field, practicing with coaches involved — a welcome step in the development and evolution of the offense, especially under new coordinator Bill O’Brien. Now O’Brien and other assistants, like new offensive Line coach Adrian Klemm, can get involved on the field after several weeks of off-field communication and planning. Individual and group drills will be welcomed into the mix while there are no pads and no hitting yet.
Offensive and defensive players can practice against each other soon enough, when the next step in offseason workouts, phase three, begins. This comes with a series of OTAs (organized team activities) beginning May 17, before mandatory minicamp June 12.
