We all know that the Patriots' 20+ dynasty didn’t end smoothly. But just how bad was it? We may not have fully realized how wacky things got (or for how long) - until now.

On Wednesday night’s episode of NBC Sports Boston's Early Edition, Patriots insider Tom E. Curran peeled back the curtain a bit on the relationship between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick:

“The back half of the Patriots dynasty was comprised of the greatest head coach of all-time and the greatest quarterback of all-time not really liking eachother a whole hell of a lot,” Curran explained. “Tom Brady once said to me in 2016, ‘weirdest guy I’ve ever met. It’s what I’ve been living for 16 years,’ and he spent three more years of it!”

The context? The fact that the relationship between the coach and quarterback doesn’t really matter in New England.

“It doesn’t matter! The guys that he liked were Cam Newton and Jimmy Garoppolo. So what’s that tell ya? It doesn’t matter!”

Jones and Mego: Can Mac Jones and Bill Belichick coexist?

This comes on the heels of a report from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer that the Patriots offense has been completely delegated to new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, and that the head coach has stayed out of the way.

"As for any lingering issues between Jones and Belichick, it was far harder to ascertain whether the needle’s moved much on that relationship at all,” Breer wrote. “There was no come-to-Jesus meeting at the end of the last season on how everything came undone.”

While it all may be much ado about nothing, the Brady comment on Belichick from 2016 stood out. But for full disclosure, the quarterback has had nothing but great things to say about his former head coach in recent weeks:

“Were there times where, you know, it wasn’t always eye to eye? Very few and far between, actually. I still envision our relationship as positive and always will,” Brady told ESPN. “[Belichick] was one of the first people to text me after we won the Super Bowl in Tampa.”

That being said, after what happened a season ago, maybe it's just best for Belichick to stay out of his quarterback and offensive coordiator's way.
