With Alex Van Pelt freshly hired as Offensive Coordinator for new coach Jerod Mayo and the New England Patriots, it seems they are setting their sights next on the O-Line.
According to Mike Reiss of ESPN the Patriots are looking to hire Andy Dickerson as their new Offensive Line coach. Dickerson, a graduate of Tufts University, has been coaching since he graduated in 2003. Over those two decades, Dickerson has worked in a variety of positions in the NFL. He was predominantly a quality control and offensive and defensive assistant for the Patriots, New York Jets and Cleveland Browns before landing as the Assistant Offensive Line coach with the St Louis/Los Angeles Rams in 2012. He held that post through the 2020 season before jumping to the Seattle Seahawks as the Running Game Coordinator in 2021, before becoming the O-Line coach for the past two seasons. The Seahawks recently hired former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, who will be looking to assemble his own staff.
Dickerson worked closely with former Seahawks OC Shane Waldron, who the Patriots wanted to interview for offensive coordinator before he accepted the position with the Chicago Bears. Ironically enough Dickerson also interviewed for Offensive Coordinator recently with the Cleveland Browns, a post that became available when they dismissed Alex Van Pelt, who is now the Patriots OC. Small world, those NFL coaching circles.
Should he accept the position, Dickerson would replace Adrian Klemm, who held the O-Line coach post for one year with the Pats. Klemm had to take a medical leave of absence during the season and did not finish the season. Since the retirement of Dante Scarnecchia in January of 2020 offensive line coach has been a position of instability on the Pats. Perhaps Dickerson would step in and hold the post down and showcase some of the success he had in Seattle here in New England.
