Robert Kraft expresses unhappiness with the Patriots' lack of recent playoff success

Robert Kraft is just as unhappy as every other Patriots fan about their lack of playoff success in recent years.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday at the NFL meetings, the Patriots’ owner expressed explicit disappointment about the way the last three seasons have ended in Foxborough. “I’m a Patriot fan — big time — first. More than anything, it bothers me we haven’t been able to win a playoff game in the last three years,” he said.

The Patriots have gone 21-22 since Halloween 2019, including two playoff losses in the Wild Card Round. They faltered to the Titans in the 2019 campaign, and fell to the Bills in January, failing to force a single punt.

Usually, Bill Belichick’s teams get better towards the end of the season. That has not happened recently. Though the Patriots bounced back last year with a 10-7 record, they went 1-4 over their final five games, including the postseason.

There were several bright spots to last season; however, beginning with the performance of rookie quarterback Mac Jones. The Patriots also drafted defensive lineman Christian Barmore and running back Rhamondre Stevenson. At last year’s league meetings, Kraft criticized the team’s poor drafting record.

On Tuesday, he was full of praise, at least in that department.

“I’m happy that we had a great draft last year. It made up for what happened the previous four years or so,” he said. “I look forward to hopefully having a great draft this year. That’s the only way you can build your team for long-term and consistently that you have a chance of winning, is having a good draft.”

The NFL Draft starts April 29.
