FOXBORO -- Things got interesting this morning with the Titans and Mike Mularkey parting ways and rumors swirling that Josh McDaniels would be interested in that job, but it doesn't appear that's the case.

According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Colts have held strong with their pursuit of McDaniels and the Colts are expected to be his choice when an offer comes. It appears a formal offer cannot be made until the Patriots' season ends.

Some have said the Titans opening came too late in the process for McDaniels to seriously consider the job.

McDaniels and Colts general manager Chris Ballard share the same agent and are said to have a good relationship. He will get the chance to work with Andrew Luck, who when healthy is among the best quarterbacks in the league.

New England will host Jacksonville in the AFC title game on Sunday.
