Sports world reacts to Tom Brady retiring 'for good'

NFL legend Tom Brady is retiring. Again.

And this time, it's "for good."

The seven-time Super Bowl winner made the unprompted announcement in a surprise social media post on Wednesday morning -- exactly one year after announcing his first, short-lived retirement.

According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, the Buccaneers learned of Brady's decision shortly before the rest of the world. The Bucs were the only franchise Brady would have seriously considered playing for if he had returned, Darlington added.

Meanwhile, the response to the Brady news on social media was somewhat muted -- not terribly surprising given the circumstances.

After all, Brady is now 45, and having briefly walked away from the game last offseason, most journalists and fans understood that such a decision could be in the offing once again.

Still, it's not every day that arguably the best player in league history calls it a career.
