Tanguay: The Patriots are taking you for granted

We are just under a week from the NFL’s legal tampering period and NOBODY, I mean nobody has any idea what the Patriots are going to do.

Nobody but me, that is.

Do I have inside sources? No. Do I have years of experience of working in a NFL front office? No. Have I ever coached an NFL team? No.

But I have been in a movie scene with Golden Globe winner Rosamund Pike. And that alone makes me qualified to tell you the way it is.

THE PATRIOTS ARE TAKING YOU FOR GRANTED. I can feel it, and I can see it coming.

I have heard names like Mitchell Trubisky, Marcus Mariota, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sam Darnold, and Gardner Minshew as possibilities to takeover for Cam Newton. If had to choose out of this bunch, I’d go with Jacksonville’s Jock Strap King, but the truth is these guys are ham-and-eggers ... blah! They suck. Do not talk to be about Jimmy Garoppolo until the Niners get a quarterback and Teddy Bridgewater does not count.

The buzz now is Justin Fields is dropping in the draft. If he’s at No. 15 would Bill take him? He should, but the hoodie will probably take guard or some guy that can two-gap.

The Pats have put the word out that they will be aggressive with all of this free-agent money. Define aggressive. I define aggressive as trading two No. 1's and second to get Russell Wilson, keeping Stephon Gilmore and load up the brinks truck for a receiver like Allen Robinson, Chris Godwin, or even JuJu Smith-Schuster. That is being aggressive. Or what about throwing the store at Houston for Deshaun Watson?

I just know the Patriots definition of aggresive is to lose out on a bidding war for any of the top wide-outs, pick a quarterback in the middle rounds and say they made an offer to Gilmore but in the end they had to trade him because the player wouldn’t take less annually in an extension.

The question is how long will you put up with it? Are you going to say, “Ah, well we won six titles, it’s all good.” If that is your mentality you are a fool.  And oh, why are the pundits talking about cutting Marcus Cannon to save $7 million? The Pats have all this money ... $62 million to be exact so why should they cut anybody?

The Patriots have all of this cash and claim they’ll be strutting into the free agent store swinging a big ... wallet. I’ll believe it when I see it.
