Ted Karras explains signing with Miami last offseason: I knew the Dolphins were on the rise

After four seasons in New England, center Ted Karras signed with the Dolphins this past offseason.

It made sense for Karras as he likely would have been a backup with the Patriots, but has started every game for the Dolphins this year. But he also noted he had a feeling the Dolphins were going to be a good team this season.

“I knew the Dolphins were on the rise," he told reporters Wednesday. "I knew we were going to have a pretty good team based on the guys that we signed before and we came in and worked hard and put ourselves in a position to play meaningful December games."

Miami is 8-5 and currently the No. 7 seed in the AFC and the last team in the playoffs, while the Patriots are 6-7 and could be eliminated from playoff contention this weekend.

As for this week's game, a lot has changed since the Patriots beat the Dolphins in Week 1.

“I think it’s hard translating from Week 1." Karras said. "Obviously there’s still some of the cast of characters, but everyone’s been season-hardened now. We’re three months into the season. Everyone’s evolved, like you said, and put little nuances in. I already went back and watched that game, but I’m really more focused on what they’ve done the past six weeks and they’re probably doing the same for us.”

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Sunday in Miami.
