Tom Brady’s contract with the Buccaneers will expire at the end of this upcoming season. Then he’ll be free to sign with the Dolphins and torture the Patriots for years on end.

All offseason long, ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio has reported on Brady’s interest in joining the Dolphins as a minority owner. The Dolphins were apparently ready to bring Brady on board in tandem with Sean Payton, but then Brian Flores’ lawsuit derailed the plan. The Globe’s Ben Volin echoed that story on “Merloni & Fauria.”

On Thursday, Florio added another chapter to the saga, reporting that Miami was ready to introduce Brady as a minority owner the week before the Super Bowl. For those keeping score at home, that was just one week after Brady had announced his faux-tirement.

The move would’ve been the most shocking heel turn since Hulk Hogan joined the NWO.

While Brady won’t be playing for the Dolphins this season, it seems like we’re just delaying the inevitable. Brady seemingly returned to the Buccaneers once the Dolphins situation imploded. It was his only option.

Next year, Brady will have more, and if reports are true, Miami is his top destination.

That would be disastrous for the Patriots. Seeing Brady become part of the Dolphins’ front office would’ve been hard enough, but Brady might not have played in that scenario — at least for 2022. The Buccaneers are still in control of Brady’s rights. But that will change in March 2023. Brady has a no-tag clause, too, meaning he can’t be franchised.

Imagine Brady throwing to Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Cedrick Wilson Jr., Mike Gesicki and the scores of veterans he could probably recruit to South Beach. Suddenly, seeing Mac Jones practice with Kendrick Bourne and Jakobi Meyers doesn’t seem so exciting.

Brady playing in the division would be a never-ending victory lap. He led the league in passing yards and touchdowns last season. It’s not inconceivable to think he’ll still be one of the game’s best quarterbacks two years from now … at 46.

Get ready for it now: Brady is joining the Dolphins. It makes perfect sense. He loves celebrity, sunshine and crypto. Miami provides all three. As a resident of "Billionaire Bunker", Brady probably knows that.

He’s also reportedly tight with real estate mogul Bruce Beal, the league-approved successor to Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.

In due time, Brady could face off against Bill Belichick on the field and Robert Kraft in the boardroom. Is there any doubt about who would win?
