Tom Brady has had a career unmatched by any player in NFL history, leading his teams to 10 Super Bowls, winning seven of them and winning five Super Bowl MVPs.
But there is still one thing he hasn’t accomplished and one game in particular that he can’t get over: Super Bowl XLII, when the 18-0 Patriots lost to the Giants and failed to finish off the second perfect season in NFL history.
While Brady has talked plenty about how much all seven of his rings mean to him, it turns out he would be willing to trade not one, but two of them in exchange for 19-0.
Brady joined the NFL’s “Draft-A-Thon” live stream during this year’s draft, appearing alongside Julian Edelman, Mark Wahlberg and Michael Strahan (who was on that Giants team), among others. While discussing that Super Bowl, Shannon Sharpe asked Brady if he would trade two of his rings to get that one.
“I would,” Brady said while nodding his head. “Let’s be real … easy.”
We’ve known based on his previous comments that Brady never really gets “over” any of his losses, especially that game, but this was a revealing answer that shows just how much it still hurts to know he got so close to perfection only to come up just short. Hey, maybe this year’s Buccaneers -- with all of their starters back from last year’s Super Bowl team -- will have a shot.
A good follow-up -- that Brady almost certainly would not have answered -- would be: Which two rings would he trade?
You can watch the segment below, with the discussion about that Super Bowl beginning around the 22-minute mark:
