At 6-7, the Patriots seem likely to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008, but the thought was the team is rebuilding this season following the departure of Tom Brady and its financial situation.

But, appearing on Dale & Keefe Wednesday, NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran pointed out the rebuild may not have even have started yet when considering how much of the Patriots' core is either in their 30s or free agents after the season.

“I think the one thing to hold your breath unfortunately too is, the rebuild might not have even started when you consider the number of free agents on their team who are in their 30s that they are going to have to make decisions on," he said. "If you want that rebuild, if you want that core of perhaps [Josh] Uche and definitely Isaiah Wynn perhaps and [Kyle] Dugger in the backend, JC Jackson — if you want that for your core that’s fine, but what are you going to do with Adam Butler? What are you going to do with Lawrence Guy? And what are you going to do with David Andrews and James White and Julian Edelman and Dont’a Hightower and Joe Thuney? That’s your freaking core. And they are all either up [free agents] or old.”

Thuney, Guy, White, Andrews, Rex Burkhead and Jason McCourty are all going to be free agents after the season.
