ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Bills set a lot of records in Saturday's 47-17 beat down of the Patriots on Wild Card Weekend.
For starters, they became the first team in NFL history to go an entire game without punting, kicking a field goal, or turning the ball over.
“Congratulate Buffalo on the win tonight,” Bill Belichick said after the game. "Obviously, they did a great job and we just couldn’t keep up with them tonight. Certainly deserve the win. Well-coached, executed well, and we just couldn’t do much of anything. So, pick up the pieces, go back to work here and find a way to be more competitive.”
The performance continued the trend of the Bills just absolutely dominating the Patriots, especially on offense. Buffalo went 20 straight drives (includes kneel downs) without punting against the Patriots defense dating back to the Monday night game in early December.
Furthermore, Buffalo scored touchdowns on all seven of its possessions, not including the three kneel downs at the end of the game, and then dating back to the Week 16 game at Gillette Stadium, the Bills reached the reached the red zone in 14 straight meaningful drives (doesn't include end of half or game drives where kneel downs occurred).
“They were too much for us tonight," Belichick said.
Josh Allen was terrific once again, finishing with 308 yards and five touchdowns, while throwing only three incompletions. In his last two games against New England, Allen is 51-for-72 (70.8%) passing for 622 yards, eight touchdowns and no interceptions for a QB rating of 134.14.
Also, the 47 points allowed were the most ever by a Belichick-coached team.
So, was the Bills scoring touchdowns on all seven drives the best offensive performance Belichick has ever seen?
“They played well tonight," he said.
Before exiting the podium, Belichick summed things up nicely.
“They played well. We didn’t. They deserved to win," he said.
New England ends its season 10-8, but did make progress indicating the future is bright.
