Last week it was Mac Jones and the Patriots offense getting all the headlines, this week it's the Patriots defense.
New England shut out the Falcons, 25-0 on the road Thursday night for their fifth straight win.
Mac Jones was efficient -- going 22-for-26 passing for 207 yards with a touchdown and an interception -- but he and the offense certainly left some plays on the field.
“It was a good team win and the defense stepped up and played really well," he said to reporters. "The goal is to score one more point than the other team, and we were lucky enough to do that. It’s really hard to win in the NFL and you can’t take anything for granted. You just have to watch the film and get better. But at the end of the day the only thing that matters is scoring one more point than the other team.”
The Patriots defense forced four turnovers, which helped in a big way.
Meanwhile, the Patriots offense scored just one touchdown, was 4-for-12 on third down and went 1-for-3 in the red zone.
“We can do better on offense, and we’ll do that," Jones said. "It all just starts with watching the film. It’s a short week, but there are no excuses. We can play better and we will.”
The rookie also took full responsibility for the interception.
“It’s first down and you never want to throw an interception on first down in the high red zone," he said. "I’ll watch the film and see what happened, but the guy made a good play and the line gave me enough time. It was just a bad throw and a poor read.”
Jones and the Patriots will get the weekend off before beginning preparations for the Titans.
