The Patriots added a wide receiver on Tuesday at the trade deadline in wide receiver Isaiah Ford following a trade with the Dolphins.
The 24-year-old was a seventh-round pick in the 2018 draft and has played sparingly with the Dolphins in his three years in the league.
Standing 6-foot-2, he primarily plays out of the slot and could help fill the void with Julian Edelman landing on injured reserve. The team could view him as an upgrade over Gunner Olszewski.
In seven games with Miami this year, he has 18 receptions for 184 yards. One of his best career games came against the Patriots in Week 17 last season when he had seven receptions for 54 yards.
Ford is a restricted free agent after the season, so the Patriots could easily keep him if they want to go that route.
He certainly isn't a game-changer at the position, but could be a solid No. 3-4ish wide out.
As a person, Ford has received rave reviews. Multiple Miami reporters called him one of the better guys on the Dolphins and Patriots running back Brandon Bolden, who opted out of this year, and played with Ford in Miami, gave a rave review on Twitter.
While Ford isn't a No. 1 or even No. 2 receiver by any means, he seems like a solid player to have around and only giving up a late-round pick in 2022, it made a lot of sense.
