What Patriots special teams coach is saying about rookie Quinn Nordin ahead of Week 1

As it stands Tuesday, Quinn Nordin will be the Patriots' kicker Sunday against the Dolphins.

The undrafted rookie is on the active roster, while veteran Nick Folk remains on the practice squad.

So, after an up-and-down preseason, how is special teams coordinator Cam Achord approaching Nordin?

"I think you've gotta try to go about the daily approach the same way with any guy -- whether it's him or another player that's maybe playing in his first game that counts, as I like to say," he said Monday. "Because if you start trying to change the emotion and trying to get up and down, they're trying to think what's bothering you or why your emotion is changing. I think you've got to stay the same every day. That way it's the same. It's not something like we've got to be so much higher energy. Or why are you yelling now, but you weren't yelling in Week 1 of training camp?

"So I think that's the way I approach it, the way I approach the coaching aspect of it is, be the same every day. That's the biggest thing for me. That way, if I'm the same every day, and I bring the constant coaching points, the adjustments, whatever it may be across the board, guys as they hear them, they know what's expected. That's what they understand, and they don't feel that flux in the intensity and the urgency throughout the day. And hopefully it helps them in return stay even-keeled, think of it like another day, another chance to get better and another opportunity on the field. And hopefully -- obviously there's a little bit of nerves -- it's not so far out there that they're thinking about it and not thinking about doing their jobs."

There is always the chance Folk is elevated for the game and ends up kicking, but as of now Nordin is the guy.
