Training camp is just a few short weeks away and to get ready for it, we will be unveiling a 21 questions about the Patriots series relating to the upcoming season. Be sure to check back almost every day to see a new question.
What will Matt Patricia’s role be with Patriots in 2021?
Patricia is back with New England after being fired by the Lions after almost three seasons. His title with the organization has not been released, but if the spring told us anything, he will be working closely with Bill Belichick as he was virtually attached to his hip during many of the sessions open to the media.
The former Patriots defensive coordinator was involved in the draft, as he was in the War Room on draft night and reportedly signed some contracts this offseason, so it seems like he has some front office duties. And then he was on the field with the team during the spring, even doing some hands-on coaching with some defensive lineman.
His exact role remains to be seen, but it seems like he could be helping to replace Nick Caserio. Caserio wore a number of different hats and the same seems to be said for Patricia.
On game day, it seems unlikely he will be on the sideline, but will likely be on the headsets from the box in communication with the coaching staff. He could also help replace Ernie Adams in that regard.
Patricia’s exact title will likely be learned when the media guide is released just before training camp, but we all know by now Belichick isn’t big on titles, so it may not mean all that much.
