Training camp is just a few short weeks away and to get ready for it, we will be unveiling a 21 questions about the Patriots series relating to the upcoming season. Be sure to check back almost every day to see a new question.
Who will lead Patriots in receptions this coming season?
This is a good one that really could go in a number of different directions. There isn't a true No. 1 receiver like in the past with Julian Edelman, so any receiver or tight end could ultimately haul in the most passes this coming season.
Last year it was Jakobi Meyers with 59 followed by James White with 49 in 14 games. New England figures to have more of a passing game in 2021, so the total should be higher than Meyers' 59 a year ago. But, with so many options in the passing game, maybe the targets are spread out over a number of different players.
We expect Meyers to have another solid season, but ultimately the tight ends should be the top option in the passing game no matter who is at quarterback -- Cam Newton or Mac Jones. While Hunter Henry should have a solid season, Jonnu Smith seems like a player Josh McDaniels could have a lot of fun with getting him the ball in space. Therefore, we like Smith to lead the Patriots in receptions this coming season.
Nelson Agholor is an option, but he isn't really a volume receiver, rather one that makes big plays down the field. Smith's career high is 41, but he should be much more involved with the Patriots offense than he was in Tennessee.
