Jon Lyons and K.J. Carson filled in for Rich Keefe on Friday night and, in addition to talking about the Patriots’ win over the Steelers, spent time discussing why the Mac Jones-Bailey Zappe discussion has been so divisive for Patriots fans.
“There is an element of the Mac people that scoff at the Zappe people,” Lyons said. “And then there is the Zappe people who say, ‘Mac just sucks and everything’s his fault.’ Both sides of that have things wrong with it, but they get so dug in… I think there was so much hope in Mac’s rookie year that [him playing poorly] was a real bitter pill to swallow.”
The guys also discussed how the initial hope that Jones brought solidified people’s belief that he could be the next franchise quarterback and how the failings around Mac are not always acknowledged by the Zappe people.
