Christian Fauria believes Mac Jones is going to take a step back in his second NFL season, and it has little to do with the Patriots quarterback himself.
On Thursday’s Merloni & Fauria show, Fauria explained why he thinks Jones is going to regress. The biggest factor: The departure of offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and -- at least so far -- the lack of any experienced replacement.
“He is going to regress, and I think you should just expect it,” Fauria said. “The most important thing -- leave out injuries to him, injuries to others, maybe they don’t bring anybody in. The coaching is going to take a significant drop.
“We’re crazy if we think anybody they bring in is going to be better than Josh. It’s not gonna happen. None of these guys are better than Josh. He has too much experience. He’s too advanced. So anything you get -- other than like a Bill O’Brien-type, which it looks like that’s not happening -- you’re going to regress.”
