In previous meetings, Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones hasn't been afraid to say something to Tom Brady.
Last February during an appearance on Pardon My Take, Jones said he's the first defensive lineman to get under Brady's skin, referring to their shouting match in a Dec. of 2019 Patriots-Chiefs game at Gillette Stadium.
“You gotta understand — I talk a lot of [expletive] on the field. That was the first time I’ve ever seen Tom Brady get mad at a defensive lineman, when I talked [expletive] to him,” Jones said.
Speaking via Zoom Monday during Super Bowl media availability, Jones was asked about potentially getting under Brady's skin again during Super Bowl LV. The defensive lineman said he doesn't go into games looking to start something, but that doesn't mean he won't.
“No, we never go in wanting to get up in his face or all of that -- it just happens within the game," he said. "Listen, the d-line goes by the rule, man, we don’t take nothing from anybody. We don’t care who it is. Just on the field, even though we play a physical game, you’re going to respect me as a person. We’re not going to bow down to anyone. You better take off my knees if you’re looking for me to bow down.
“But, I hope it doesn’t happen this game. I never go into a game looking to get into anyone’s face. I just play the game by the rules and have fun.”
Jones' Chiefs got the best of Brady and the Bucs earlier this year, beating them in Tampa Bay, 27-24 in Week 12. Jones hit Brady twice in the game, but did not have any tackles or sacks.
