Scene: John Andersen sits down at his keyboard, palms sweaty. He speaks aloud to an empty room: “Do I gloat about my 3-0 record against the spread? Do I stoop to the level my co-hosts Mut and Scheim did last week when they danced on my shallow grave after my battle to the death with Lady Variance resulted in my first ever 0-3 record against the spread?”
...Of course I do.
Anyone who laid some cash on my gutsy picks last week lucked out as all three hit, even with some of the more exotic line movement from Thursday to Sunday that’s been seen in recent years. Mut and Scheim had their own little tussles with Lady V and Father Fate.
The Club is now 12-9 against the spread on the season. Here’s how we did last week:
• Mut has Jeff Wilson and Ryan Tannehill to blame for a 1-2 week (6-3 on the year) as Wilson’s decisions to run in a touchdown instead of drop and let the clock run caused the SF/NYG over to hit and Tannehill simply couldn’t finish drives as the Titans kicked five field goals en route to failing to cover against the Vikings. Mut’s “College Fund Pick of the Week” (PIT -4 v HOU) hit--so at least Mut’s children can still receive an education.
• Scheim unfortunately held Mut’s hand on the Titans pick as part of his 1-2 record this week (4-6 on the year) as the “Tannenlightenment” appears to being entering a literal dark era (more on that on the podcast). Scheim went 1-1 on his “blazing offense” picks as the Falcons Falcons’d their way into losing another game and the Aaron Rodgers scorched earth tour continued in New Orleans as the Packers beat the Saints.
• I’m back to my winning ways (5-4 on the year) after catching some flack for even entertaining the radical idea of the Patriots covering a spread. Similar but more warranted flack was received for my Browns -7 pick, but like with my anti-Carson Wentz pick that hit, the Browns pick was more of an anti-Dwayne Haskins pick.
