Not many people have better access to Tom Brady than Kevin Youkilis as the former Red Sox third baseman is Brady's brother-in-law.
Youkilis joined The Greg Hill Show Tuesday morning to discuss a few topics, including Brady leaving New England last offseason and winning a Super Bowl in his first year with Tampa Bay.
It was made clear Brady enjoyed his time in New England and there's no hard feelings towards the organization.
“I think for me personally, I know a lot of the backstories and I get a lot more inside information, but I also get to decipher out all the bull crap that I hear too, which is great," Youkilis said. "I read some of these stories and I am like, ‘Oh my God, where did that come from?’ That is the beauty of having a little bit of an in and [being in the know]. Tommy, he was super excited for a new challenge. I think that was it. The unknown of going somewhere, working with a new coaching staff, being in a new city. He really loved and valued his time in New England and I think it was one of those things where you have to kind of see maybe the other side before you do it and he was just super pumped. I just remember he was super excited a year ago [with] just a new challenge because that is what he loves in life. He loves challenging himself. He loves doing the whole mindfulness and growing.
"For me, I think it was just awesome to watch it unfold too because in the beginning it wasn’t pretty. We went as a family to the New Orleans game at home and they got their butts whooped. … After that they just started rolling. It was really fun to watch him to do it in a different city and do it with a different team. I think there’s a lot of media coverage in Boston about things being said, but Tommy really loved his time with the coaching staff and all the different people in New England. He is forever grateful and thankful for that.”
Brady recently re-did his contract with Tampa Bay and seems likely to play at least two more seasons.
