By re-signing with the Yankees, Aaron Judge has signed the largest free agent contract in baseball history.
The reported nine-year, $360 million deal eclipses the 13-year, $330 million deal that Bryce Harper signed in 2019 with the Phillies, as Judge executed the ultimate walk year season by blasting 62 home runs to set himself up for a historic payday.
As noted by Spotrac, Judge eclipses the Harper deal, the contract Corey Seager signed with the Rangers last winter, and the contract Gerrit Cole signed with the Yankees in 2020.
The list is for free agent deals, not contract extensions, which is why Mike Trout’s massive extension with the Angels isn’t listed. So when it comes to free agents, nobody has ever signed a richer contract than Judge just did to remain in pinstripes.
If you include contract extensions, it is still the third-highest total value in MLB history, per Spotrac.
