Alex Bregman details outlook for his quad injury

It was difficult to know what to make of Alex Bregman's injury upon his exit in the fifth inning of what would be the Red Sox' 19-5 win the first game of their Friday doubleheader against the Orioles.

After rounding first on a single off the left field wall, Bregman retreated back to the bag only to immediately signal for a pinch-runner. The third baseman proceeded to disappear into the tunnel, with the team later announcing the issue was right quad tightness.

After the game, Bregman clarified both what happened and how he viewed the injury going forward.

What happened? "I was rounding first base, thinking of going to go to second. And I kind of, I felt my quad grab. So I didn't continue running to second base for the double, I just kind of stopped and came back to the bag so I wouldn't make it any worse. And after I felt it, I knew I needed to come out and see the trainer."

Will this be an injured list stint? "No idea yet. Obviously, it's just day to day., I feel like, we'll know a lot more tomorrow after sleeping and seeing how it presents in the morning. But all my strength is still there right now, which is good so far. So, it's just kind of a day-to-day thing at this point and kind of see when I wake up tomorrow how it feels."

Has he had a similar injury? "I had a left quad in 2021, and it was way worse. So, we'll see. We'll see what tomorrow brings. But actually, positive from what I initially thought."

Thoughts on how it will feel? "I think tomorrow we just see kind of how it presents and take the next step there and just kind of follow the training staff’s here as lead. But right now it's just, quad tightness and we'll see what happens in the morning."
