Post-Red Sox life hasn’t been too bad for Andrew Benintendi. The Royals haven’t been contenders, but he won a Gold Glove while hitting .276 with 17 home runs and 27 doubles last season. This year, he’s hitting .305 with three home runs, 11 doubles and two triples, but Kansas City is the worst team in the AL Central.
That means the Royals could be sellers at the deadline, and it appears they’ll have at least one suitor for the left fielder, should they choose to move on from Benintendi.
According to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi, the Blue Jays are among the teams interested in the former Red Sox prospect. Additionally, Morosi reports Toronto might try to grab a bullpen arm from KC.
Toronto already has one of the best lineups in baseball, but Benintendi would provide them with a potent left-handed bat. As of now, Raimel Tapia, Cavan Biggio, Bradley Zimmer and Zack Collins are the lefties typically featured in Toronto’s lineup with any regularity. Tapia has provided the most production among them, hitting .260 with three homers and 13 doubles in 220 plate appearances.
