It was one game. One mid-May game, at that. But it was a bit more than that for Chaim Bloom and the Red Sox.
The team's Chief Baseball Officer's reaction made that perfectly clear.
The NESN camera catching Bloom pumping his fist upon witnessing Franchy Cordero's walk-off grand slam Sunday spoke volumes, as the Sox executive explained on the Greg Hill Show Thursday morning.
"I was not thinking the cameras were on me," Bloom admitted. "The game is about the players. The cameras are probably better suited to be on the field. But I can tell you it certainly brought joy to a lot of people who know me, a lot them who weren’t shy about letting me know how much they enjoy that.
"As much as I can come on the phone here with you guys and talk about consistency and taking one day at a time and keeping the eye on the prize and worry about the long haul, during the game we’re all emotional. This is our lives. We really want to win. So when something like the happens … It was an up and down game, obviously. We had not found our way to an extra-inning win. There was a lot going on behind the scenes. It was a busy weekend. It was a lot of different emotion coming there … It was a lot of fun and so pumped for the guys and for Franchy. Usually, thank goodness, the cameras are not on me up there. That’s not the first time I have reacted like that."
