An intriguing veteran pickup for the Red Sox is no longer an option.
Derek Holland, who the Sox signed to a minor-league deal in spring training, has chosen to opt-out of his deal with Red Sox. The 35-year-old had been pitching for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox.
With the WooSox, Holland allowed eight runs in 11 1/3 innings, striking out 13 and walking seven. After four straight scoreless outings, the veteran gave up three runs in two innings Friday.
