Domingo German made baseball history early Thursday morning, tossing the 24th perfect game in MLB history, and just the fourth ever in the history of the Yankee franchise.
German was stellar against the A’s, retiring all 27 batters he faced, striking out a third of them, as he went the distance for nine innings, allowing no runs, no hits, no walks, and striking out nine.
The Yankee offense gave German plenty of run support, building a 7-0 lead by the fifth inning to allow all the focus to be on German’s pursuit of history.
It all led up to the final out, snared by Josh Donaldson at third base and sending it over to Anthony Rizzo at first to secure the first Yankees perfecto since David Cone in 1999, and the first in baseball since Felix Hernandez in 2012.
