Fenway Park DJ leaving role after 15 years

TJ Connelly, who has been the DJ for Red Sox home games at Fenway Park for the last 15 years, announced Wednesday morning in his newsletter that he will not be back in that role this season.

According to Vanyaland, Connelly wrote that he is leaving on his own terms and that the decision was made in part to focus on his daily digital radio show, Uncertain Times, which he launched in March 2020 after finding himself unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Connelly, aka @senatorjohn on Twitter, frequently received praise -- even if not always by name -- for impeccable song selections that matched game situations and often brought some humor, especially around opposing teams’ pitching changes.

Connelly will remain in his role as DJ at Bruins and Patriots games at TD Garden at Gillette Stadium, respectively, and says he’s also available for some events for hire.

“In short, I’m leaving on my own terms, and I’m comfortable with the legacy I leave behind,” Connelly wrote, as relayed by Vanyaland. “I am also very excited to discover what life is like when I’m not spending 90 days and nights of every summer in a ballpark.”

(This story was updated to reflect that Connelly will continue to DJ Bruins and Patriots games, not Bruins and Celtics.)
