Connor Seabold hasn't thrown a pitch in a major league game. But that doesn't mean he can't be part of the major league conversation.
The righty starter continued to offer optimism regarding his possible immersion into the big leagues before the conclusion of the 2021 regular season, turning in another dominant performance for Triple-A Worcester, Saturday.
“It was ridiculous,” Sale recently told MassLive when talking about his front row seat of Seabold's showing with the WooSox. “I mean, plus fastball, plus breaking ball. …
“As long as he keeps filling up the zone, his stuff plays anywhere. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see him out there (in Boston) sooner rather than later. He looks like he’s polished enough to come up here and start getting some big outs.”
So, what might it mean for the Red Sox?
The 25-year-old - who came over to the Red Sox along with Nick Pivetta in exchange for Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree - has started in all but six of his 50 professional appearances. But that doesn't mean the Sox wouldn't give him a short-term look-see in the bullpen.
There is also the scenario where Seabold gets a start or two in the stretch drive in order to integrate Tanner Houck into the relieving role many believe is waiting for him once the late-September/October games roll around.
No matter what the scenario, Seabold has certainly put himself firmly on the Red Sox' radar after an August that saw him strikeout 34 and walk just six in 27 1/3 innings, pitching to a 3.29 ERA.
