It’s easy to see where Jarren Duran gets his athletic prowess. His dad is absolutely jacked.
On “Sunday Night Baseball,” the ESPN cameras focused on Duran’s old man, Octavio, who looks like he’s ready to step into the ring at any moment.
His full sleeve of tattoos only adds to his badass aesthetic.
Duran, one of the top prospects in the Red Sox’s system, was called up last Thursday. He made his debut Saturday night and singled in his first at-bat — a lined shot to right-center field.
The fact that it came off highly priced ace Gerrit Cole made it even sweeter.
“I was hoping he’d throw me a fastball because, I mean, he’s a really good pitcher so I wanted to make sure I got my pitch or he started to dice me up so I guess it worked in my favor and I got a fastball, first pitch,” Duran told reporters, including WEEI’s Rob Bradford.
Octavio Duran, for his part, told his son to enjoy the moment, per the Globe. There is wisdom behind those biceps.
Duran's family jumped on a red-eye from California that landed at Logan Airport at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday. His parents, two uncles, brother and girlfriend all made the trip to Yankee Stadium.
On Sunday night, Duran went 0-for-4 in the Red Sox's 9-1 loss.
Duran’s big league debut was far from typical: there was a 50-minute rain delay without rain before the game was called while it was actually pouring at the end of the sixth inning.
Oh, and a Yankees fan also threw a baseball at Alex Verdugo. If the Red Sox need additional protection next time they head to the Bronx, they can look towards Duran’s dad.
The man doesn’t look like somebody who should only be a bystander.
