Joe Castiglione will be calling his seventh ALCS this millennium when the series begins Friday. Can you believe it?
The longtime play-by-play man was on the call for the Red Sox’ walk-off win 6-5 win over the Rays Monday at Fenway Park. While the previous night ended with a Christian Vazquez home run, Kike Hernandez lofted the game-winning fly ball to left field.
Pinch-runner Danny Santana tagged up and scored.
“Swing and there’s a drive to left-center field, and it’s gonna win it,” Castiglione said. “ [Austin] Meadows makes the catch. Santana tags, here he comes. The throw is very wide and late, and the Red Sox have won the division series! Red Sox walk it off — actually they run it off with Santana scoring — and the Red Sox are moving on to the American League Championship Series.”
Listen to the full call below. The Red Sox are on an unthinkable run, and Castig is totally here for it.
