Whether it was a farewell gesture or simply a display of thanks, what Jon Lester did for Chicago over the weekend was one of the more creative examples of appreciation any athlete has given a city.
In short, Lester bought Chicago almost 5,000 beers in a three-day span.
The former Red Sox pitcher's return to Chicago is in serious doubt after the Cubs declined his $25 million option for the 2021 season (having to implement a $10 million buy-out), making Lester a free agent for the second time in his career.
It was news that was immediately met with Lester's plan, which he announced on Twitter Friday.
