Justin Turner suffered a scary moment Monday in the first inning of the Red Sox’ exhibition game against the Braves.

With the bases loaded and nobody out, Braves pitcher Matt Manning threw a fastball at Turner that beamed him in the face. The veteran immediately fell down, and blood was gushing out.

Turner was able to walk off the field while being escorted by a trainer.

Obviously, being drilled in the face or head area with a fastball is one of the most dangerous risks that baseball players face when they’re in the box. Even for Turner, a 14-year veteran, it was almost certainly a shocking moment.

The Red Sox inked Turner to a one-year contract over the offseason. He slashed .278/.350/.438 with 13 home runs and 81 RBI in 128 games last season with the Dodgers.

Here’s hoping he’s OK.
