While Red Sox wallow in last-place, things are getting spicy at the top of the division thanks to a couple of managers.

Tuesday night the Yankees and Rays got into heated exchanges after Aroldis Chapman threw a 99 mph fastball behind the head of Tampa Bay hitter Michael Brosseau.

But it wasn’t until after the game when things really started getting testy between the two teams, thanks in large part to comments made by Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash.

“It’s poor judgment, poor coaching, poor teaching. … I have a whole damn stable of pitchers that throw 98 miles per hour,’’ Cash said. “Period.”

He added, “Somebody’s got to be accountable. And the last thing I’ll say on this is I got a whole damn stable full of guys that throw 98 mph. Period.”

It hasn’t stopped there.

Friday during his media availability Yankees manager Aaron Boone served up much more pointed comments back at Cash than he had delivered the night before.

Both Boone and Cash were suspended a game, while Chapman got a three-game suspension.
